Privacy Policy: Elements of AI

This privacy policy explains what personal data MinnaLearn and University of Helsinki collect on you when you sign up for and participate in the Elements of AI course (herein the “course”) and how such data is used.

1. Data controllers

The data controllers regarding the data you provide upon signing up for and participating in the course are:

2. Categories of personal data and purposes of processing the personal data

When you sign up for and participate in the course we may ask you to provide us with the following information:

  • Your name
  • Password
  • Email
  • Country of origin
  • Address
  • Zip code
  • Identification details (e.g. student number, if applicable)

We use this information in order to send notifications regarding the course (e.g. status messages), process applications to the course, issue certificates, store order data,manage your participation in the course and provide the course support..

During the course we will collect data on tasks and exercises in the course. All data is processed to allow us to provide the course, follow your progress and confirm the completion of the course. We also compile statistics on participation in the course.

When consenting to marketing, we might send you a newsletter and we might use your information in extended marketing activities outlined in Section 5 of this Privacy Policy.

We may also process your data for research purposes and for the purpose of sending information on new courses if you have given your consent for such processing.

After completing the course, we keep your user account active in order to make information on the course progress and the course certificate available to you. However, you may at any time request us to remove your user account and delete your data.

3. Provision of data to third parties

Your data is processed by the personnel at MinnaLearn, its group companies and University of Helsinki who are required to access such data to organise the course and perform the tasks described herein.

If you wish to have credits from your own university who is organising the course with us, we can also share your data with such university to the extent this is necessary for such credits.

4. Requests regarding the data

You have the right to request accessing, erasing and correcting your personal data processed by us as well as send us any other requests based on the applicable laws such as request restriction of or object the processing of your personal data. 5. Transfer of data outside of the EU and EEA

We use MailChimp, a U.S. based email marketing platform to manage our email communications. Therefore, personal data will be transferred outside of the EU and EEA to the U.S. We have taken measures to ensure that such transfer of data complies with the applicable laws by applying appropriate security measures and signing standard contractual clauses based on the EU Commission’s applicable decision with our service provider. Provided with marketing consent, we might share user emails with Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Google Marketing platforms to form audiences to give said marketing platforms a better idea of who might be interested in Elements of AI educational content. You can opt out later by visiting your profile at elementsofai.com and withdrawing marketing consent. You can also opt out directly on said marketing platforms: Facebook ad preferences opt out instructions, Twitter personalized ads opt out instructions, Linkedin ads opt out instructions, Google Marketing Platform opt-out page or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.

We also use the following third party service providers to provide analytics for the course and our website:

Google Tag Manager — We use Google Tag Manager to manage our analytics platforms.

Google Analytics — We use Google Analytics to collect information about how users behave on our courses and platform. We use the information to compile reports and to help us improve the site. These cookies collect the number of visitors to the website, where visitors have come to the website from and the pages they visited. Google Data Studio — we use Google Data Studio to help us improve the site by structuring it in more accessible manner and we might share these reports and data included within them with our local partners.

The above described service providers are located outside of the EU and EEA. In these cases, we have ensured that the transfer of data complies with the applicable laws by applying appropriate security measures and signing standard contractual clauses based on EU Commission’s applicable decision with the respective service provider.

6. Other services related to the course

In addition, you can use Circle as the provider of our online course chat communities which enable self-guided reinforcement of learnings from the course by sharing learnings and experiences related to the course in a community of student peers. The chat communities can be used for setting up study groups and community chats for the purpose of discussing questions related to the course, learnings, and applications for topics related to the course. These services are optional. We do not share any data to Circle.

We use Crisp to consolidate our support requests and make sure no student is left without help. We additionally store support articles in Crisp as well as sending some of our personalized system messaging with the help of Crisp. Crisp user data is safely stored in Europe. The Crisp core infrastructure is hosted in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The Crisp plugin infrastructure is hosted in Frankfurt, Germany. User data is stored in our core infrastructure. We do not transfer user data outside of the EU.

7. Data security

All data collected by MinnaLearn and University of Helsinki is processed confidentially. Access to the data is made available only to a selected group of our employees and is only processed for the purposes described herein. The network and equipment used in processing have been secured using appropriate measures.

8. Other

Data protection laws are supervised in Finland by the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman. If you wish to lodge a complaint regarding processing of personal data or if you have other questions belonging to the jurisdiction of the Data Protection Ombudsman, you may contact the Data Protection Ombudsman’s office as advised in www.tietosuoja.fi.

9. Account deletion

If you want to delete your account, please do the following steps:

1. Log into your account at http://tmc.mooc.fi/

2. Go to settings in your account view and request an account removal there

3. You will receive an email with additional instruction on how to finalize your request.

After that, send a data removal request to hello@minnalearn.com.

Please note that removal of the user account causes erasure of information related to the course progress and, for example, course certification.
